Kapal tetap melaju dengan ritme yang sama. Angin pagi terasa lebih stabil dan tidak lagi menusuk, hanya menyentuh kulit dengan lembut.
Sophie duduk di kursi panjang di geladak, kakinya bergoyang pelan. Chloe bersandar di pagar dengan pandangan mengikuti gerak laut yang tak pernah benar-benar diam.
Nigel memecah hening dengan suara tenang. “You know,before GPS, sailors figured out where they were just by paying attention.” Sophie langsung menoleh. “Paying attention to what?”
“The sea” jawab Nigel ringan. “The color of the water, the way waves hit the ship, even the sound under the boat. Shallow water sounds different from deep water.”
Sophie mengerjap, lalu spontan berkata, “What the flip.” Nigel tertawa kecil. “Yeah. If the sound felt light and hollow, they knew it was shallow. If it felt heavier and calmer, they were in deep water.”
Chloe berpikir sejenak lalu berkata, “So they didn’t need maps all the time.” “Exactly, they trusted small clues.” jawab Nigel sambil tetap menatap laut dengan serious
Mungkin hidup juga begitu. Kadang kita hanya perlu lebih peka pada tanda-tanda kecil yang terus hadir, cukup untuk tahu apakah kita sedang aman melaju atau perlu melambat dan mendengarkan lebih dekat.
